Bone Broth Cleanse Day 4: The Creole Deal
First and foremost, knowing how to make great soups for the Osso Good 7 day bone broth cleanse is key. Still, one man can have only so much soup, especially if you are cutting out breads that you normally dunk in your soups. I needed to make something hearty and tasty with a little BAM, added in. As a frequent visitor of Louisiana and New Orleans I regularly try to make healthy version of dishes I’ve tried there. Consequently, it’s no surprise I chose to make a paleo Shrimp and Grits and make my 2nd creole meal of the cleanse.
Breakfast and Lunch
By the same token I used the second half of the Osso Good Mango Bone Broth Smoothie I made yesterday for a snack. It’s always a tasty way to snack and get 10 oz. of broth.
Shrimp and (Cauliflower) Grits
Regrettably, grits by nature are super cheesy and dairy filled, aka, delicious, but not paleo friendly. Therefore, the grits essentially had to become a conduit of the broth. In other words, these are very loosely considered “Grits” and maybe at some point I can find another recipe that is more savory. At any rate, you’ll find during your Osso Good 7 day bone broth cleanse not every meal you try to make gets put in your monthly rotation of meal making for your family. Even so, the Shrimp recipe brings enough dynamic flavor to give the grits a little more tang and makes a solid meal.
- 5 oz. OSSO GOOD Spicy Pork Bone Broth
- 1 lb. of large shrimp
- 15 oz. diced fire roasted tomatoes
- 4 oz. green chili- diced
- 4 slices of bacon – diced
- 1 ½ tsp. coconut oil
- ½ of yellow onion – diced
- 1 bay leaf
- 2 tsp. Old Bay seasoning
- 3 green onions – sliced
- Pinch of red pepper flakes
- Black pepper
- Lemon Wedges
How to make Shrimp:
First, sprinkle shrimp with Old Bay seasoning and saute with oil for 2 mins or so. Transfer to a plate.
Secondly, saute onion and bacon, 4 mins or so, add tomato sauce, green chilis, bone broth, bay leaf and pepper to taste, simmer for 8 mins, until thickens. Lastly, remove pan from heat and add shrimp and green onion, squeeze lemon over. Discard bay leaf.
- 15 oz. of Osso Good Spicy Pork Broth
- 1 head of cauliflower pulsed in Food Processor
- 2 Tbsp grass fed butter or extra virgin coconut oil
- Pinch salt
- I added Bacon, bacon fat, green onions, and jalapenos for flavor
- Hot Sauce
How to make Grits:
First, feed the cauliflower through the shredder attachment of your food processor. Second, heat a large skillet to medium high and add either the butter or coconut oil. Finally, toss in the cauliflower and a good pinch of sea salt, and saute for 3-5 minutes, stirring often, put aside. Then, combine broth, (previously cooked) bacon, green onions, jalapenos & butter. Bring to a boil, lower heat to simmer, add grits. Cook 25-30 mins., stirring every 5 mins until broth reduces. Serve hot. Top with your favorite Hot sauce!
Divide grits onto 4-6 plates, spoon shrimp & sauce over each. Serve with a salad. Enjoy!
