BACK to SCHOOL season is upon us. We all know what that means…GERM season is upon us! No matter how hard you try to avoid it, these little germs find their way into every nook and cranny and eventually attack us. Whether or not they win is completely up to you. Here are a few things you can do to help boost your immunity and why bone broth is best for back to school season.
Get Plenty of Rest
We all know how our body functions when we don’t get enough sleep. You’re groggy, slow, and tend to make poor decisions. By getting at least 7 hours of sleep per night, you can not only stay mentally acute, but also help your body naturally boost your immune system. According to the Mayo Clinic, your system releases proteins called cytokines during sleep which your body uses during infection or inflammation. So, count those sheep and get those zzz’s to increase your immune response.
Wash your Hands
Germs can spread through touching dirty hands, by a sneeze or cough, or by contaminated surfaces to name a few. We are constantly using our hands throughout the day to say hello, speak enthusiastically, or grab that pile of books off the counter. Because we don’t know where our hands have been, it’s important to wash, wash, wash! The best way to wash your hands is to use warm water and lather soap for about 20 seconds, making sure you get in between your fingers and under the nails.
Drink Bone Broth Daily
There is a good reason why your Grandma always told you to have chicken soup when you’re sick…it’s because the bone broth (when made properly like Osso Good’s formula) contains 19 essential amino acids in an easily digestible liquid. Some top amino acids to help boost immunity include:
- Arginine – Essential for immune system and liver function
- Glutamine – Boosts metabolism
- Glycine – Aids in glutathione production and also quality of sleep
Don’t forget that 80% of all immune system cells reside in the digestive system. This means that as you heal your gut through the high gelatin content of bone broth, you are also healing your immune system.
For an added boost, try Osso Good’s Immuni-Qi blend. This herbal formula is designed to help you Nourish and Tonify your Liver and Kidney (the foundation of health in traditional Chinese medical theory), Move and Tonify your Qi (circulating life force), while Nourishing Yin (passive) and Raising Yang (active).
With 18-16 hours of every day that you’re awake, spending 30 minutes to an hour daily on exercise is a must! Believe it or not, exercise actually gives us more energy! It delivers oxygen and nutrients to your tissues and helps your heart and lungs work more efficiently, giving you the energy you need to get it all done. Kettlebells are my favorite! They are the perfect exercise to combat “western posture”. Find a professional in your area to make sure you’re doing it right!
The best way to begin to incorporate meditation into your daily practice is to start with only 2 minutes. If you can meditate for 2 minutes for a week, the next you can up it to 5, until you’re meditating at least 20 minutes a day. You will not only see a boost in your memory and compassion, but will also experience less anxiety and stress. Both body and mind require relaxation to boost your immune system so give it a try!
